The treatment

What a smile design actually is

A smile design is not a single procedure: it is a plan. Before any tooth is touched, we study the proportions of your face, the line of your lips, your skin tone and the shape of the teeth you have now, and from that we project how your smile could look. That project is planned digitally, so you see it and approve it before any treatment begins.

Depending on what your case needs, the plan may combine porcelain or composite veneers, whitening, gum contouring, orthodontics beforehand or restoration on implants. Two people who ask for a smile design almost never end up with the same treatment, which is also why they do not pay the same price.

What it is not: one template applied to everyone. You are treated directly by Dr. Angela Barbosa, a prosthodontist specialized in oral rehabilitation and aesthetics, and the design is built on your face, not picked from a catalog.

Step by step

From your first message to your new smile

  1. 1

    Complimentary assessment

We talk about what you do not like about your smile and what you are hoping for, and the condition of your teeth and gums is reviewed, because oral health comes before aesthetics. If you are traveling from abroad this first step is virtual: you send photographs of your smile on WhatsApp from wherever you are.

  2. 2

    Diagnosis and treatment plan

From the photographs and the clinical assessment come the diagnosis and the alternatives your case allows. If something has to be resolved first — a cavity, inflamed gums, a bite that should be corrected before anything else — it appears here, not halfway through.

  3. 3

    Digital design

Your new smile is projected over your own photographs. You see it on screen and it is adjusted until it convinces you: length, shape, color and how much of the teeth show when you smile.

  4. 4

    Try-in on your own teeth

This is the mock-up: a model of your new smile placed over your teeth. You leave the practice wearing it, you live with it for a few days, and it can still be changed.

  5. 5

    Treatment

With the design already approved, the veneers or whichever treatment your plan calls for are carried out, using the most conservative technique your case allows.

  6. 6

Follow-up, including once you are home

Follow-up appointments and care instructions so the result lasts. Our care is personal before, during and after your trip, so you stay in touch with us on WhatsApp once you are back home.

How long it takes depends on the case: a plan solved with veneers alone can be completed in a few weeks, while a case that needs orthodontics or implants first takes longer. After the virtual consultation we tell you the estimated length of your stay in Bogotá, the number of appointments and the budget, so you can organize your trip with confidence rather than guesswork.

The technology

Intraoral scanner, no silicone putty

Impressions of your mouth are taken with an intraoral scanner: a camera that travels over your teeth and builds a three-dimensional model on screen. It replaces the trays filled with silicone putty, and that changes the whole appointment.

More comfortable

It does away with the silicone putty, which is what causes the gagging and the discomfort of a traditional impression.

More precise

It captures detailed three-dimensional images, which reduces distortion errors and the need to repeat the impression.

Faster

The digital record goes straight to the laboratory or the 3D printer, and that shortens the total treatment time — which matters when your days in the city are counted.

Less invasive and safer

It lowers the risk of infection and allows a cleaner workflow than the conventional system.

You see it as it happens

The model of your mouth appears on the screen while it is being taken, so you understand what is going to be done by looking at it, not by imagining it.

The decision

Porcelain or composite veneers

This is the question we are asked most, and there is no single answer. Each material wins at different things:

Porcelain (ceramic) Composite (resin)
Appearance Mimics the translucency of a natural tooth better Very good result, slightly less translucent
Longevity The longer-lasting of the two Shorter; renewed or touched up more often
Staining Does not pick up stains from coffee, wine or tobacco Can stain over time
Appointments Needs a laboratory and several appointments Resolved in fewer appointments
If one fractures The veneer is replaced Can be repaired directly in the mouth
Investment Higher More accessible

Budget is not the only thing that decides. How much enamel you still have, whether you clench your teeth at night, the shade you are starting from and how stable your bite is all weigh in. That is settled by seeing you, not over the phone — and it is one more reason the plan is agreed before you book a flight.

Smiles that speak for themselves

Beyond the practice

Your stay in Bogotá

Your appointment schedule is arranged around your stay, not the other way round, so your days in the city are used well. The practice is in Chico, Chapinero, one of the safest and best-connected areas of Bogotá, close to hotels, restaurants and the financial district.

If you have free time between appointments, we are glad to share recommendations near the practice and elsewhere in the city — restaurants, cafés and walkable areas, museums and cultural activities, shopping centers and the landmarks worth seeing — so you enjoy the food and the culture of Bogotá while your treatment is under way.

These recommendations are an orientation service for our patients. They are not part of a tourism package.

Before you ask

Frequently asked questions

How long do I need to stay in Bogotá?

It depends on your plan, so we do not quote a number before seeing your case. After the virtual consultation we tell you the estimated length of your stay, the number of appointments and the budget, and with that you can organize your trip with confidence.

Does a smile design hurt?

The design itself — the study, the digital planning and the mock-up — involves no pain. If you are a nervous patient or you feel any discomfort, we work with digital anesthesia, which helps a great deal with whatever might bother you.

Do my teeth have to be filed down?

Not always. There are cases resolved with no reduction at all, because dentistry today is minimally invasive. But designs are not standard, and what yours needs comes out of the assessment. How much will be reduced is told to you before starting, not during.

How much does a smile design cost in Bogotá?

Smile design starts from COP 2,000,000 and porcelain veneers from COP 6,000,000. Yours depends on how many teeth are in the plan, the material chosen and whether anything needs treating first. The assessment costs nothing, and you come out of it with the plan and the exact quote.

How long do veneers last?

With good hygiene and regular check-ups, porcelain lasts longest. What usually shortens the life of a veneer is not the material: it is untreated bruxism. That is what the night guard at the end of treatment is for, and in certain cases botulinum toxin.

Will they look fake?

Only if they are designed to look that way, and the aim here is the opposite: a smile that looks like yours. That is what the try-in before the definitive work is for — if anything looks artificial, it is corrected at that stage and not afterwards.

Do I need orthodontics first?

Sometimes. Minimal rotations are corrected within the design, but if your bite does not close properly it is better to resolve function before aesthetics: the result is more conservative and lasts longer. The assessment tells you whether that is your case.
